About

An Artist's Story

My name is Jodi Wendt. I grew up in Iowa, in the United States, in a small Farming community. I was a young girl surrounded by a very patriarchal, limited worldview, which I instinctively did not feel a part of. I always questioned the 40 hour work week, as well as many other observations of culture I had made while living amongst such simple acceptances. I was young when I began to question our farming practices. I remember asking my father “who eats all of this corn?” And he replied that it was not for human consumption, but rather for animal consumption. I intuitively understood even at a young age, that this was not sustainable. It didn’t make any sense. I was top of my class at art during my high school years, which, honestly, meant very little. The emphasis in our community was sports- a masculine command of things, and music and art were far less appreciated. I lived in the desert of Arizona for 4 years, and in Los Angeles California for a time, where I was a professional musician, touring the United States under an Independent record label with national distribution. During that time, I did not commit much to the creation of fine art. I was exposed to the tattoo industry during that time, and so that planted a seed. Fast forward years later, and as a mother of three, a homeschooler, a gardener/farmer and a business owner, I settled into my crafts and developed my skills as a tattooist, and eventually, as a painter. I’ve been a tattooist and business owner for 17 years, and a painter for 6. I began with acrylics, and humble ambitions, and today, have graduated to oil and fine art, with a focus on realism and earthly as well as mystical themes.
